Randy & Carlene Miller
Years of experience and years worked at Troyer Carpets: I have been at Troyer Carpets for 21 years. Carlene and I purchased 1/4 of the business in August of 1999. Lowell and Cheryl Troyer started the business in 1992 and asked us to partner with them because they wanted to go to the Dominican Republic to be missionaries. We worked together for around 3 months and they were off to do mission work. Several years later we purchased another 1/4 of the business and became half owners with the Troyer’s. In 2016 we bought the rest of the business from the Troyer’s, and then sold a 1/4 of the business to our son in law and daughter Tyler and Hannah Smith.
Thoughts about the company: I love the opportunity to serve our local community with their flooring needs. We have a great group of guys in the office who have become like family to Carlene and I. Our installation crews are a bunch of wonderful guys as well.
Interesting fact: We have done projects as far away as Montana and 32 stories high on Michigan street in Chicago. We also partnered with a local church to put new flooring in a church that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in Waveland Mississippi.
Hobbies & Interests: My hobbies include golf, sports in general (IU, Bears, White Sox, Bulls and Blackhawks) just to name a few. I also love to mushroom hunt in the spring. And being on the lake any chance I get.
Years of experience and years worked at Troyer Carpets: My dedication to Troyer Carpets and the hard-working, family-oriented staff began in the summer of 2008 when I was hired on as an installation apprentice. I quickly developed a passion for the industry and culture of a family-owned business. While completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Business at Purdue University, I returned every summer to work at Troyer Carpets as a sales intern. Upon graduating from Purdue in 2012, I spent one year away from the company to work in sales near Purdue while my wife, Hannah Smith, finished her Doctorate of Pharmacy. In the summer of 2013, Hannah and I moved back to Goshen to pursue our career passions. I was hired on as a full-time Sales Manager at Troyer Carpets while Hannah completed her pharmacy rotations in the greater Goshen area. In October of 2016, Hannah and I were blessed with the opportunity to purchase a quarter of the business from owners Randy and Carlene Miller. I have functioned as the Vice President (AKA “Little Cheese”) ever since!
Thoughts about the company: At Troyer Carpets, I have the opportunity to meet new clients and gain their trust every day. The family-owned environment provides an unparalleled opportunity to provide customers with the highest quality products and services to meet their individual needs. We pride ourselves in carrying a wide variety of unique products from multiple vendors and truly take the time to listen to each customer’s unique ideas and desires for their home or business. At Troyer Carpets, the entire staff, from upper management to the sales and installation team, are like family. This creates a fun, trusting environment in which all employees can truly exercise their individual strengths. The best part has been the opportunity to serve the community through the beatification of local homes and business. I am so thankful for the trusting business and client relationships I have been fortunate to build over the years!
Interesting fact: When I was 4 years old, I was hospitalized for over 2 weeks with a rare infection derived from the chicken pox. I still have all the cards, balloons, and gifts from my hospital stay (thank you, mom!).
Hobbies & Interests: I love travel, golf, football, exercise, and any QT I get to spend with my family, friends, and dog, Brees! I wind down at the end of each day in the kitchen or on the patio grilling with my wife (who I recently brought over to the bright side of golf… She hasn’t beat me yet, but she’s working on it!).
Years of experience and years worked at Troyer Carpets: After graduating from Ball State University, I began working for Troyer Carpets full-time in May of 2020. However, I have three years’ worth of prior experience in the flooring industry as I still worked part-time, at Troyer Carpets, throughout my schooling.
Thoughts about the company: Troyer Carpets is a company that values offering top-of-the-line services at competitive rates. Furthermore, the dedicated staff has the knowledge and expertise to help you choose the perfect flooring at any budget. Afterall, redecorating can be a stressful and costly process.
Interesting fact: I am an avid sports fan and enjoy discovering new hobbies and places that take me out of my comfort zone.
Hobbies & Interests: I enjoy staying very active both socially and physically. My hobbies and interests include: traveling, boating, golf, and exercise.
Years of experience and years worked at Troyer Carpets: 40 years (April 2021) experience. 23years at Troyer Carpets.
Thoughts about the company: A mom and pop that can hold it own against the box store competition.
Interesting fact: Nearly got out of flooring biz in “86” to work in van conversion shop. Lasted one day!
Hobbies & Interests: Sports fanatic. Cubs, Bears, Notre Dame football. Spending time outdoors, also traveling to the warm places in the winter, and Tennesee in the spring or fall months.
Years of experience and years worked at Troyer Carpets: Employed since October 2019.
Thoughts about the company: Well run and organized. Generous and thoughtful with employees.
Interesting fact: Cap’n Crunch’s full name is Horatio Megellan Crunch.
Hobbies & Interests: Golf & Grand kids
Years of experience and years worked at Troyer Carpets: I began working for Troyer Carpets in ’94 in the warehouse getting things prepared for all of our installers but most of my time here has been spent in sales and estimating.
Thoughts about the company: I have really enjoyed my time here working for a small family company which I think translates into the customer not just being a number.
Interesting fact: I truly enjoy being outdoors any time of the year, I have camped along the Noatak river in northwest Alaska. The Northern Lights are unbelievable.
Hobbies & Interests: I enjoy cycling, camping, hunting and fishing and spending time with our kids and family who are now spread across 6 states.
Years of experience Brees is a Miniature Schnauzer who will be turning 2 on May 27,2021. She has been the showroom greeter since she was 8 weeks old. You can always count on her to greet you with excitement, and she’ll most likely ask you to throw her ball or any toy in site.
Thoughts about the company: I’m hungry.
Interesting fact: I can sing at a very high pitch.
Hobbies & Interests: Long snuggly naps, playing ball, eating slim jims, and meeting new people.
